Mud and Sunshine (Not Glastonbury) – Cubs Camp June 2011

An intrepid group of 52 Cubs, Scouts, Young Leaders, Leaders and Parent Helpers braved deepest darkest Brentwood for the June cub camp. Friday subjected us to rain, rain and more rain, with Vicky, JC, Owen, Bini and Sean doing a great rain dance at Campfire and the Cubs and Scouts having a great time as the mud planes of Brentwood grew.

Saturday was a bright and busy day, with cubs building camp gadgets, tracking, air rifle shooting, Boldering (Climbing), Fire lighting, Cooking their own simple meal, bat hunting, joining the site campfire and even tackling the adventure playground.  Steve, the Group Scout Leader even popped in for a visit, and got to see the Cubs practicing their fire lighting skills.

On Sunday, a scorching day, the cubs, scouts and young leaders went Kayaking and all got involved in learning how to pack away tents (Correctly).  Yet more visitors on Sunday with Keith Pethers (the District Commissioner) and Colin (the site warden) coming over and joining us for brunch and getting to see the logistical nightmare of a full inspection.

It was a great weekend and I’d like to thank all the Cubs for their enthusiasm, creativity and energy (although I wasn’t so impressed at 5.30am on Saturday morning), all the Scouts and Young Leaders for their amazing support over the weekend, coaching the cubs, guiding them (and even wading in the water to help them with the Kayaking) and the wonderful Leader and Parent Helper team who made the event so great(and who cooked some excellent food).

In fact, we all had such a good time that we’ve booked our next camp for September – Watch this space.

Why not check out some of the photos!! and come along and get stuck in at our next camp.
