The Annual Romford District Scouts cycle – cross took place at Crow Camp, on Sunday 22nd November.
The preparations began early in the morning when a team of 7 young leaders (who volunteered unselfishly to brave the early morning rain) began setting up the course and organising the day.
Due to the very heavy rain, the number of Scouts competing was down on last year, but the lack of numbers did not stop the intensity of the competition.
The track was through and around the camp on forest paths and consisted of steep drops, sharp climbs and tricky turns.
The races were on a 1 Versus 1 format, and as the event progressed the weather improved greatly which helped the cyclists a lot. As the competition progressed, the races then became closer with the competitors becoming more familiar with the course. Then as the competition began to climax the scouts became more and more competitive and the races became quicker again and again.
In the end only one group could win, and the winners were 3rd Collier Row followed closely by the 4th Gidea Park, 21st Romford and the 1st Romford groups.
All in all a fun and entertaining day for all of the participating Scouts and the supporting parents.
