Scouts diary update

We’ve made a few updates to the Scouts section diary: Wed 14^th March – Date for regular parents meetings, Fri 16^th March – Challenge Night (at 7^th Squirrels) moved from Fri 30^th March and Sun 4^th March – Orienteering competition instead of Cycle Cross. Please update your copy of the group calendars and watch out for more info.

Yesterday four of our intrepid scouts (Adam, George, Jessica and Michael) braved minus 5 at Thriftwood to finish the last part of their foresters badge.

They were attending one of the many badge course that the team at Thriftwood run throughout the year for Cubs, Scouts and Leaders.

The courses are great fun, run by an excellent bunch of leaders and great value. They are usually held on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings and if you want more information why not mail us at: info@21stromford.org.uk

I think we all had a great time at the District Scooter Rally today, some great results, some amazing support from the parents and some super pictures – Why not take a look. Thank-you to everyone who attended and worked in the District to set the event up. Check out the diary for our upcoming events.

2012 Calandar updated

Morning, We’ve just finished updating the calandar on the website. Some great things going on (and some help needed with some events), why not have a look.

Also, if you fancy helping on a regular basis (anything from say once a month, just at weekends or more regular – whatever you can do) then why not speak to one of the leaders about becoming a sectional helper or an assistant leader.

Scouts and Parents Planning Evening – Wed 18th Jan 2012

One Wednesday 18th Jan 2012 the Scouts will be holding a planning evening to get Scouts and their Parents input to help shape the 2012 programme. Please can all Scouts attend, accompanied by one or more parent.

HRH The Duchess of Cambridge has become Scouting’s newest volunteer

The Duchess, who joins 66,000 girls and 40,000 female leaders in Scouting, will help out at groups close to where she lives. Her Royal Highness also hopes to help with activities in other parts of the United Kingdom as opportunity arises.

Flexible volunteering

The announcement comes as a great endorsement of Scouting’s commitment to allow adults to volunteer their time on a flexible basis. The Duchess will help run a variety of activities relevant to her skills and interests. This could include running games, teaching first aid or cooking on campfires.
Chief Scout Bear Grylls gave a delighted reaction to the news: ‘The Duchess has an incredibly busy life, which makes it all the more inspiring that she has chosen to volunteer alongside us.

‘Over the last few years it has been our mission to make it easier for adults who volunteer with us to give as much or as little as they are able – it is how we change our society: many people doing a little bit.’
